February 2016
Message from the President

Christine DavlinFebruary Greetings!

It happens every year. After the holidays, we blink, and it is February!  Our bonus is that we have an extra day this month. Every four years in the Gregorian calendar, an extra day is added to the calendar in order to synchronize it with the solar year. This is the year, so enjoy that extra day!

Our annual membership meeting in January allowed us the opportunity to share our chapter’s accomplishments and goals. It was also a good time for our members to learn more about their board and we chose to do that via a method most of you are familiar with, “Storytelling.” Thank you to all who attended and participated.

This month we will focus on the impact of training. A question we all face, how do we measure the effectiveness?  Please join us as Teresa Hiatt shares information about tools and ideas we can use to better analyze and collect feedback.

In March we are changing the day of our regular meeting so that we may offer a more in-depth session. As part of Everything DiSC, Lorna Kibbey (certified through DiSC) will be focusing on workplace conflict. Many of us struggle with conflict personally and professionally.  Participants will have a chance to take a personal assessment in advance and use the information during the session.

We have a variety of topics that we are excited about this year, and hope you will join us. If you are interested in hosting or facilitating a program, please contact Lorna, our VP of Programs at Lkibbey@lkibbey.com.

Hope to see you in the near future and Happy Heart month!

Warm regards,

Christine Davlin

February Event: Automating Training Evaluation

Measuring the impact of training has never been more important, yet resources to prepare, gather and analyze data are scarce. This meeting will explore hardware, software, and design ideas that might help get the results trainers need.

New VP of Chapter Membership: Erin Burnheimer

Erin BurnheimerGreetings! I would like to introduce myself to the group. My name is Erin Burnheimer and I have recently taken the role as VP of Membership for our local SWFL ATD Chapter. I feel membership and increasing our members will help not only our chapter, but all the members grow in their current roles. I have a passion for knowledge and watching co-workers grow within a company.

I am the Human Resource Training Coordinator for Immokalee Seminole Hotel and Casino. As a trainer I am not only helping others grow around me but pushing myself to grow in the area of talent development. Being a member of our chapter has allowed me to gather resources and grow in my personal and professional life. Our group harnesses a wealth of knowledge who is always there to share with one another. One question that I have recently been asked by new members is “What’s in it for me?” That is a question I would love to hear from through our current members. I would love to share experiences and positive impacts the group has made on you. As the VP of Membership I want to encourage all of our members to “bring a friend/co-worker” to a meeting. If you have a referral, please reach out to me and I will follow up. I am looking forward to watch our chapter flourish and all the members to grow.

Please contact through email; erinburnheimer@gmail.com with your experiences and referrals to our group. I look forward to hearing from you.

NEW Special Interest Group: Independent Training and Speaking Professionals

ATD SW FL is forming a SIG for training and speaking professionals who are independents – including anyone who:

  • Runs their own business.
  • Considers themselves an entrepreneur.
  • Operates as a consultant.
  • Is thinking about going out on their own.
  • Works happily with an organization but is thinking of an independent project (writing a book for example).
  • Just wants to have some good discussion on related topics.

The group will begin with meetings once each month and as a group will eventually decide the best time and format for our informal gatherings. The first meeting will be a breakfast gathering on Friday February 26, 2016 at Panera Bread at Gulf Coast Town Center. Click here to RSVP.
