JANUARY 2020 - "ATD Capability Model - Let's Get Growing!"
Wow! The Southwest Florida Chapter of ATD hit the ground running for 2020. It’s a new decade and a new Talent Development model. The January evening event included an introduction of the incoming ATDSWFL Board and officers, and a review of the ATD-SWFL 2020 Strategic Plan by Chapter President, Dr. LauraAnn Migliore. Dr. Migliore shared the vision of the new Board for growth, learning, community involvement and supporting each other through the “Power of WE”.
“We are focused on connecting and engaging our chapter members via the new ATD Capability Model, optimizing our chapter’s organizational processes, and growing our chapter’s financial capacity (through grants, corporate donations, and advertising initiatives). With increased financial capacity, we will conduct cutting-edge research in education and learning technologies and provide training & development solutions to advance the global profession of talent development. We aspire to be recognized as an ATD Chapter of Excellence.” Come join the power of “We”!

The focus of ATDs new study and Capability Model has been on helping talent development professionals build capability so they can effectively perform their work today and prepare for challenges they’ll face in the future. Competence refers to a person’s current state and having the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a job. Capability is about integrating knowledge and skills and adapting and flexing to meet future needs. Shifting from a competency model to a capability model signals to talent development professionals that they must be agile and committed to continual development to successfully create, innovate, lead, and manage change.
The group had a great discussion around the Capability Model and its implications for talent development professionals. The group agreed it is a relevant model that is both wholistic and synergistic in developing our professional and personal growth, and helping practitioners facilitate organizational effectiveness for the companies or clients that they serve.
There is a FREE online self-assessment to help focus your personal and professional development relative to the ATD Capability Model. Use this great tool to help plan your own personal and professional growth in 2020. To access the assessment and learn more about the Capability Model, click here.
