To be successful in today’s complex, global environment, organizations need to move from the command and control mindset to a more collaborative culture. Organizations today are recognizing that networking behaviors are essential to success. They reflect how works gets done in the new work environment of the 21st century.

The path to improved and more effective collaboration begins with individuals learning and developing skills in specific networking competencies. Applying these skills within their teams and with other departments leads to greater collaboration, which in turn, can have a tremendous impact on the organization’s success. Improved strategy execution, greater innovation, higher employee engagement are all driven by collaboration. This session will provide participants an understanding of the path from individual skill development to improved results at the organizational level.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Assess their Networker Identity
  • Understand the path from networking skills to greater collaboration
  • Identify and understand 8 specific networking competencies
  • Have at least four specific techniques to use back on the job to improve their networking effectiveness

Bio: Currently Vern is a principal consultant with Contacts Count (www.contactscount.com). His focus, energy and passion is working with individuals and organizations to deliver the business networking skills that create intentional connections, meaningful conversations and greater collaboration.

Vern is an accomplished Human Resource professional with more than 25 years of experience with organizations as diverse as Dunkin' Donuts, the American Chemistry Council, Lee Hecht Harrison, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and the American Bankers Association.

Vern has held senior leadership positions as a HR generalist, the head of a corporate university, and as a career management consultant and coach. His extensive background in human resource development and broad-based business experience means that he helps clients see the “big picture” while at the same time taking the specific actions necessary to achieve success.

His areas of expertise include business and professional networking, career development, career management and transition, human resource management, training design and delivery, organizational development, change management, performance management and improvement, and customer service.

He’s delivered keynotes for groups at Princeton University, SHRM, the Smithsonian Institution, and Georgetown University McDonough School of Business.

Vern earned his Masters degree in Leadership and Organizational Change at George Washington University. He is a member of ATD and SHRM. He holds certification as a Senior Human Resources Professional.
